The 1st of May is often a difficult day to live in Berlin. It is a day that over the last 25 years or so has unfortunately come to be associated with violence. Many demonstrations take place and whilst most of these remain peaceful, some end up rather more violent. Fortunately we have seen an improvement in the last couple of years. The Police have developed good tactics with the demonstrators and fortunately we do not here so many reports about casualities as in previous years. In particular, the protests are getting smaller and moving to different districts because the Police are so effective. We thank you for your prayers for this place on the 1st of May – they are making a difference. Sadly though even with a peaceful 1st of May, Berliners still lack an inner peace – the peace of knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour – do pray that this inner peace will come as well. Thanks for your ongoing prayers!

The Pankow Church plant hosted its third Partner and Vision Days from March 24th to March 28th. The days included a look back on the blessings that God has showered on us as a church plant over the last 6 years as well as looking ahead to the future. We welcomed representatives from churches in Germany, America and Scotland. Prayer played a central role during the days – praying not only for God’s will and direction to be clear for the Pankow church but also praying for our partner churches as well. A major theme during the days was also seeking God’s will about an eventual daughter church project from Pankow within the next five years. We are excited to see what God reveals to us before the next Partner and Vision Days in the years to come!

There have been two central themes over the last two months (December and January).
The first theme has been giving thanks to God for all that He has blessed us with during 2011. We have specifically spent time at several events either as individual church plants or together at the monthly prayer meetings looking back at what God has done during 2011. It is only when we look back that we see how much God has done. We can give thanks for a good move at the Pankow church as well as new visitors. In addition, the Staaken church has also seen growth during the last year. A new church plant has emerged in Potsdam. We give thanks to God that He is at work in this city.
The second theme has been planning for the months ahead. It is already looking like a busy year. At the Pankow church, we are holding a Partner conference at the end of March followed a weekend retreat in May and our annual holiday club in June. What all the church plants await though (with great expectation) are the surprises that God will throw our way. Some of them will no doubt be difficult but we believe that by the end of 2012 we can look back on a year where God has done much in this city.
There remains a great harvest in this city and your continued prayers make a difference. Thanks for your prayers for this city during 2012.

During the advent season, a living advent calendar was organised in Pankow. A number of local businesses and organisations took part. Each day in Advent a different store or community centre opened their doors to the local community. The program each day included either singing, a drama sketch or the reading of a story. The Pankow church helped to organise and provide logistical support for the advent calendar. In addition, we held the Christmas eve event at the Pankow church community office. If you would like to see photos from the living advent calendar in Pankow then click on the following link: Pictures.

In addition, we as a Pankow Church are thankful for around 20-30 people attending services on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. We request prayer now for more opportunities to share the love of Christ in our local district during 2012.

Thanks for your ongoing prayers for Berlin!

Teenagers bake Christmas biscuits on 10th December in our community office.

Kreuzberg – have a stall at the Christmas Market in Kreuzberg from 2nd to 4th December.

So it has been a while – almost 5 months to be exact since the last blog post. A lot has happened – in the church planting work here in Berlin and also for me personally. Two things however never change: 1. God is always with us and 2. many of His faithful followers continue to remember us faithfully in prayer. Thanks very much to all of those who lift Berlin as a part of your daily prayers.

The challenge for us is how we can provide you with up-to-date prayer requests and report on the answers to your prayers. Therefore we have put together this website. THe website itself provides information about the various church plants as well as this prayer blog. We hope that you find this website a useful support aid as you pray for Berlin. We will try to update it as much as we can.

I used to maintain my own Berlin prayer blog. These posts have been transferred to this website to hopefully give an overview of how God has blessed the work here over the last two years. We look forward to seeing how God will move in this city in the coming years…

Churches from all denominations are meeting together in one of the troublespot districts, Kreuzberg, to pray for a peaceful day. Last year was relatively peaceful and we pray that this year would be peaceful also.

The service in Kreuzberg is an open-air service in a local park. Pray that this would be a positive witness to the local community. Please also pray for the prayer walks which will take place afterwards.

Thanks very much for your prayers!

Easter is arguably the most important Christian festival. If Jesus didn’t die on the cross and then rose from the dead, then our faith as Christians would be worthless. If Jesus couldn’t rise from the dead, then we also couldn’t rise from the dead and we would have no hope. Clearly, without Christmas, there would be no Easter and without Easter, there would be no Christmas. The two festivals are interlinked.

Here is a handy guide to when Easter services are taking place within church plants in Berlin. Thanks for your prayers as we celebrate this special season:

Friday – Good Friday devotional service at the Pankow church.

Sunday – Brunch at the Staaken church. Easter Sunday service and Picnic at the Pankow church. Baptismal service at the Potsdam church.

Have a great Easter!
